I was working on some animations and I found old files. It's like he found a scarf and his life just improved overnight. I think from now on no matter how small it is I'll be trying to update this blog daily.

Don't be a faggot. You don't need to update the blog daily.

Anyway, the new shading is obviously much improved, but the red scarf is better.

Oh, okay. I just don't want people thinking I'm losing interest or something.

Red scarf comes back later in the game.

I'm all for knowing that you are, in fact, alive and working on this with regularity.

Hey, I've been following you for awhile and I'm really loving your progress so far. I'm working on a game of my own and decided to try GM6.1 based on your usage.

Would you say GM6 has limited you in any way thus far? I think I read from someone on a forum that simple enemy A.I. in an action game takes a large amount of code, let alone other things like dialogue, inventory, view changing, etc.

Just makin' sure, I still don't know if it's the right engine for me but I could just be thinking it's alot more limited than it really is.

Thanks!

Nah, it's not all that limited. I'm not having a problem with AI, but dialog can be a little bit of a hassle. Granted a small one, though. Inventory is way easier than most people make it, I was guilty of that for a while too. The biggest problem you'll probably run into is memory usage, but that's pretty easy to overcome if you handle resources well. If you're starting a small project to get your feet wet in the process of making a game, GM is great.

Thanks for the support, everybody.

Alright, thanks!
By the way, is there any reason you decided not to get GM7 to develop this on? Don't want to pay for it or don't want to deal with possible legal issues if you pirate it or what?

I know I've posted this before, but...:

Doesn't the property rights (for GameMaker 7) only apply if you post your game on their website and/or forums? I've read their terms and conditions and end-user license, and it says that, save for the GameMaker Software itself, the games you make are solely your own (provided those don't infringe on any copyrights themselves) as long as you don't submit your games to yoyogames.com (therefore making them claim your work).

If that was the reason he decided against GM7 then I think I'll risk it for the sake of engine improvements and extra features!

If I could make a suggestion?

I think you should remove the single pixels of his mouth when his mouth is closed. It's unnecessary noise in his sprite since he's small, and his scarf covers most of his mouth anyway.
